Thiruvananthapuram: Indian offspinner R Ashwin has made the decision to withdraw from Bharat’s Test against England in Rajkot due to a medical emergency in family.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) assured Ashwin that they would provide the necessary assistance and keep communication lines open to offer support whenever required. The announcement from the BCCI informing Ashwin’s withdrawl from the matches came late in the evening yesterday, after the conclusion of the second day’s play in Rajkot, during which Ashwin had taken Bharat’s first wicket of the Test match.
Rajiv Shukla, the BCCI vice president, took to X and noted
Wishing speedy recovery of mother of @ashwinravi99 . He has to rush and leave Rajkot test to Chennai to be with his mother . @BCCI

With three days left in the third Test match, Ashwin’s absence may leave Bharat with only ten players to field. His decision to withdraw adds up to the list of players who are unavailable for either the whole series or certain matches.
