New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly gearing up to implement a new regulation. According to national media reports, players aspiring to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be required to play domestic cricket, specifically the Ranji Trophy.
Under the proposed rule, players must play minimum of three to four Ranji Trophy matches per season to be eligible to play in IPL matches. This requirement extends not only to current IPL franchise players, but also to those participating in the auction. All franchise will have to fulfil the criteria to participate in the auction. Additionally, players who haven’t featured in Ranji Trophy matches will not be permitted to register for the IPL auction. Players who are absent from the Ranji Trophy includes Ishan Kishan, Deepak Chahar, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, and Shreyas.
Former Indian batsman Mohammad Kaif expressed his support for the BCCI’s decision to mandate that all players in the national team should participate in domestic cricket when they are fit and available.
While the new regulation has yet to be officially announced, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has reportedly communicated the intent behind the rule change via email to players who have been absent from domestic cricket.
