New Delhi: Shreyas Iyer, who was excluded from the Test squad against England due to injury claims, faces a setback as the National Cricket Academy releases a report suggesting that the player has no fresh injury. He was also absent from the Ranji quarterfinal, claiming to be injured.
Shreyas Iyer informed the Mumbai Cricket Association a day before the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals that he couldn’t play due to back pain. However, Nitin Patel from the National Cricket Academy clarified in an email to selectors that Iyer wasn’t actually injured and was fit to play.
The revelation regarding Iyer’s fitness comes amidst the backdrop of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressing dissatisfaction with the frequent absences of India A team players from domestic cricket, including Ishan Kishan and Deepak Chahar, among others.
Ahead of the Rajkot Test, BCCI Secretary Jai Shah emphasised the importance of India A players participating in domestic competitions. He also warned the players that those who are taking rest during Ranji tournaments won’t be able to play in the IPL this year.
