Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to take disciplinary measures against cricketers Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer amid their absence in domestic cricket matches. Reports from national media suggest that both players may face removal from the BCCI’s central contract roster as a consequence of their actions.
Despite prior warnings from the BCCI, Kishan and Iyer have chosen not to partake in Ranji Trophy. The BCCI had finalised a new list of players for central contracts, with the approval of team selectors and they will release it soon.
Shreyas Iyer was sidelined from both the Test series against England and Ranji Trophy matches due to back pain. However, the National Cricket Academy confirmed that he was fit to play after he passed the medical test. Similarly, Ishan Kishan was also absent from the Ranji Trophy, citing mental stress.
The BCCI intervened in the matter upon discovering that both players were preparing for the Indian Premier League (IPL) without participating in Ranji Trophy and Test series against England. BCCI Secretary Jai Shah emphasised the importance of contracted players playing in Ranji Trophy matches and issued directives accordingly. Despite these instructions, Kishan and Iyer continued to abstain from domestic cricket.
