Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian men’s and women’s table tennis teams have secured their spots at the upcoming Paris Olympics for the first time in history. This significant milestone was achieved through their rankings.
Currently, the men’s team holds the 15th position, while the women’s team is placed 13th in the rankings. Additionally, both the men’s and women’s singles players have also qualified for the Olympics.
The road to Olympic qualification saw the Indian teams facing challenges, with their bid at the World Championships ending in the quarterfinals. However, it is the first time in history that Bharat has qualified for a team event since the inclusion of table tennis in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Sharath Kamal expressed his joy and pride on X, stating, Finally!!!! India qualifies for the team event at the Olympics! Something I have wanted for a long long time! This one is truly special, despite it being my fifth appearance at the Olympics! Kudos to our Women’s Team who also secure a historical quota!
