New Delhi: Rishabh Pant, making a comeback to the cricketing arena after a hiatus of 14 months, has been appointed as the captain of the Delhi Capitals. Pant has been sidelined from action since enduring serious injuries in a life-threatening car accident on December 30, 2022. The star Indian wicketkeeper was compelled to undergo two surgeries on his knee.
Delhi team chairman Parth Jindal expressed his delight in welcoming Pant back to the squad in a press release. The left-handed batsman actively participated in the pre-season camp held in Visakhapatnam. The Delhi Capitals are scheduled to play their first match against the Punjab Kings on the 23rd of this month.
Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had granted Pant a physical fitness certificate, confirming his readiness for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
During Pant’s absence, David Warner led the Delhi Capitals team in the previous season. However, with Pant’s return and his appointment as captain, the team aims to make a strong comeback in the IPL tournament.
