Delhi: Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has etched his name into T20 history by setting a new record for the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in T20 cricket by taking 300 wickets’ including caught behind and stubbing. Notably, none behind the stumps have crossed even the 280 mark in wicket-taking, including retired players who now solely participate in franchise cricket.
Dhoni’s record-breaking catch came during a match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) when he dismissed Prithvi Shaw off Jadeja’s delivery. Despite Prithvi Shah’s formidable form, contributing 43 runs off 27 balls, Dhoni’s swift catch propelled him into the prestigious 300 record.
However, despite Dhoni’s individual achievement, CSK faced a setback as they were defeated by the Delhi Capitals (DC) by 20 runs last night. DC, after winning the toss, chose to bat first and set a challenging target of 191 by losing five wickets in the first inning. Notable contributions came from Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, and Rishabh Pant, scoring 43, 52, and 51 runs, respectively.
In CSK’s pursuit of the target, they suffered an early blow with the dismissal of skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad in the first over, who managed to score only a single run before heading back to the dressing room. Despite valiant efforts from Ajinkya Rahane, Daryl Mitchell, Ravindra Jadeja, and MS Dhoni, CSK fell short due to a slow run rate and loss of wickets.
This defeat marks CSK’s first loss in the tournament. Looking ahead, CSK will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 5th in Hyderabad, aiming to bounce back from this setback and resume their winning streak.
