Delhi: Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant has been fined Rs 12 lakh for breaching the code of conduct during his team’s victory against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2024. The incident occurred during the match held at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Sunday night.
Rishabh Pant, who was playing in his first IPL season since 2022, incurred the fine as his team was found to have maintained a slow overrate against CSK. Despite the penalty, Pant’s performance was noteworthy, as he played a crucial role in DC’s victory. He scored a solid half-century, contributing to his team’s challenging total of 191/5 against CSK.
In the match, the Delhi Capitals emerged victorious by 20 runs, with Rishabh Pant leading the team to success. However, the joy of victory was tempered by the fine imposed on the skipper for the low overrate.
The IPL released a statement confirming Rishabh Pant’s fine, stating that it was his team’s first offence of the season under the Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences.
According to the statement, a repeat offence could lead to a one-match ban for Pant. This setback aside, the Delhi Capitals’ victory marked their first win of the ongoing season, following two consecutive defeats.
Previously, Gujarat Titans skipper Subman Gill was also fined for a low over rate during a match against Chennai Super Kings in Chepauk Stadium, adding to the list of captains facing penalties in the IPL.
