New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly has shared his opinion on the exclusion of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from India’s T20 squad for the upcoming tour of West Indies. While both players will be part of the Indian team for the ODI and Test series, they will not feature in the T20I series, with Hardik Pandya taking up the mantle of leading the team.
Speaking to RevSportz, Ganguly emphasized the importance of selecting the best players, regardless of their reputation or stature. According to him, both Kohli and Rohit still have a place in T20 cricket, and he cannot understand why they are not included in the squad. Ganguly cited Kohli’s excellent form in the IPL as evidence that he deserves a spot in the T20 setup.
“Pick your best players; it doesn’t matter who they are. In my opinion, both Kohli and Rohit still have a place in T20 cricket, and I cannot see why a Kohli or a Rohit cannot play T20 cricket. Kohli was in great form in the IPL, and both have a place in T20 cricket, if you ask me,” said Ganguly.
The Indian team is set to face West Indies in a five-match T20I series, with the first match taking place at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad on August 3. The second and third matches will be held at the Guyana National Stadium in Guyana on August 6 and 8, respectively. The fourth and fifth fixtures are scheduled to be played at the Broward Country Stadium in Florida on August 12 and 13.
The decision to exclude Rohit and Kohli from the T20 squad has sparked debates and discussions among fans and experts alike. While some support the move to provide opportunities to other players and build a balanced team, others question the absence of two of India’s most accomplished batsmen in the shortest format of the game.
