New Delhi: Yashasvi Jaiswal, the young cricket prodigy, has captured the attention of the cricketing world with his remarkable journey from being an under-19 sensation to a centurion on Test debut. Jaiswal’s talent and determination have made him the talk of the town, and his recent performances have only solidified his position as the next big one for Team India.

The 20-year-old batsman has taken each step of his career with unwavering determination and a constant desire to improve himself. From his early days in Mumbai’s Azad Maiden to showcasing his skills in the colourful Caribbean conditions, Jaiswal has consistently proven himself at every level of the game.

His impressive performances in the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa laid the foundation for his rise. Jaiswal emerged as the leading run-scorer of the tournament, amassing 400 runs in six matches at an average of 133.33. His standout performance included an unbeaten century in the semifinal against Bangladesh. For his exceptional efforts, he was rightfully awarded the “Player of the Tournament” accolade.

Jaiswal’s success extended to the youth level, where he showcased his talent in both ODI and Test formats. In 27 Youth ODIs, he scored 1,386 runs at an average of 69.30, including three centuries and 12 fifties. His best score of 114 demonstrated his ability to dominate the opposition. He also impressed in Test England conditions, accumulating 294 runs at an average of 42.00 with four half-centuries.

Taking his game to the domestic stage, Jaiswal made his mark in the Ranji Trophy and the Duleep Trophy. In the Ranji Trophy 2021–22 knockout matches, he smashed centuries against Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, contributing significantly to Mumbai’s progress to the final. In the Duleep Trophy, Jaiswal showcased his prowess with a brilliant 228 against North East Zone and an unbeaten 265 against South Zone in the final, finishing as the tournament’s leading run-scorer.

Continuing his extraordinary form, Jaiswal played a masterclass in the final of the Irani Cup 2022–23, scoring a double century and a century in both innings, leading the Rest of India to a resounding victory over Ranji champions Madhya Pradesh.

His exceptional performances earned him a call-up to the India A team in late 2022, further solidifying his credentials as a future star for Team India. Jaiswal’s breakthrough IPL season in 2023 saw him finish as the fifth-highest run-scorer, amassing 625 runs in 15 matches at an average of 48.07. He also achieved the feat of scoring the fastest fifty in IPL history in just 13 balls, leaving fans and experts in awe of his talent.

And now, with his century on his Test debut against the West Indies, Jaiswal has taken another giant stride in his international cricket journey. With over 2,000 runs in first-class cricket at an impressive average of 84, including 10 centuries, Jaiswal’s statistics speak for themselves. While he still has a long way to go and needs to sustain his form and consistency at the international level, there is little doubt that he possesses the potential to become a long-term success for Team India across all formats.
