Port of Spain: A commanding century partnership between Virat Kohli and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja brought India back into the game as they finished the first day of the second Test against the West Indies in Port of Spain with a score of 288/4. Kohli is inching closer to his 29th Test century, remaining unbeaten at 87, while Jadeja provided valuable support with an unbeaten 36.
At the start of the final session, India, at 182/4, relied on the solid partnership between Kohli and Jadeja to build a healthy first-innings score. The duo showed great determination and skill, ensuring that India finished the day without losing any further wickets.
Earlier in the day, West Indies pacers displayed a clinical performance during the second session, leading to India losing four crucial wickets. After a strong start from openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, the experienced Jason Holder dismissed Jaiswal for 57 runs. Jomel Warrican then sent Rohit Sharma back to the pavilion after a well-made 80 runs. Virat Kohli and vice captain Ajinkya Rahane attempted to stabilise the innings, but Rahane’s dismissal for eight runs before tea added to the pressure.
However, Kohli, playing his 500th international match, showcased his class and determination to lead the Indian innings. He found a steady partner in Ravindra Jadeja, who played a supporting role to perfection.
The opening session was dominated by Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who put on a solid 121-run stand. They played confidently, scoring at an impressive rate of nearly 5 runs per over. Rohit reached his fifty in style with a six, while Jaiswal brought up his second fifty of the series in just 49 balls.
The Indian batsmen displayed their intent and determination to put their team in a strong position after the Windies opted to bat first. The West Indies bowlers tried various tactics, but the Indian openers stood firm, taking the team past the 100- and 150-run marks with ease.
