Dubai: Pakistan’s impressive performance in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship has propelled them to the pinnacle of the standings, as Team India was held to a draw in the second Test against the West Indies in Trinidad. The final day’s play in Trinidad was washed out due to rain, resulting in India having to settle for a share of the spoils in the two-match Test series against the West Indies.
The draw in Trinidad marked the end of India’s 100 percent win-loss record in the new World Test Championship cycle. Meanwhile, Pakistan, following their four-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in Galle, now stands as the only team without a loss in the new cycle, placing them firmly at the top of the rankings. Led by captain Babar Azam, Pakistan’s consistent performances have kept them on track to maintain their unbeaten run, as they bowled out Sri Lanka for a mere 166 runs on the first day of the second Test in Colombo.
In the ongoing Test match against Sri Lanka, Pakistan showcased their prowess as they raced to 145/2 from just 28.3 overs before stumps were drawn on the first day. The team is determined to build a substantial lead over their Asian rivals on Day 2, scheduled for Tuesday.
Despite India still being unbeaten in the new cycle, their draw with the West Indies has caused them to slide to second place in the latest updated standings. Additionally, their win-loss percentage has dropped from a perfect 100 percent to 66.67, highlighting the competitiveness of the tournament and the significance of each Test match.
The previous World Test Championship champions, Australia, currently occupy the third position in the rankings. England follows closely behind, securing the fourth spot, while the West Indies hold the fifth position. The remaining teams are yet to feature in the new 2023–25 World Test Championship Cycle, promising further intriguing clashes in the competition.
