New Delhi: In a significant development for Indian cricket, star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is set to make a comeback to international cricket after a prolonged injury layoff. The lethal pacer will lead the Indian team in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Ireland in Dublin, scheduled to take place from August 18 to 23.
Bumrah’s absence from the Indian side has been keenly felt, and his return will undoubtedly bolster the team’s bowling attack. The right-arm quick underwent back surgery in New Zealand to address a nagging injury, and since then, he has been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy. In a promising sign of his progress, Bumrah recently completed his full quota of 10 overs while bowling for a visiting Mumbai side at the Alur grounds.
Having last represented India in a T20I against Australia in September of the previous year, Bumrah’s absence had left a void in the Indian pace department. His availability for the T20I series against Ireland will be a major boost for the Indian team, especially considering his stellar track record in the shortest format of the game.
Alongside Bumrah, the India squad also includes some promising young talents. Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named vice captain, showcasing the team’s faith in his leadership abilities.
