Dubai: India’s cricketing sensations, Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan, have surged to new career-high ratings in the ICC ODI rankings for batters in a fresh update announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday. Gill, displaying his batting prowess, leapt two places to occupy the fifth spot, further solidifying his place among the cricketing elite.
Gill and Kishan emerged as India’s standout performers with the bat during the recent ODI series triumph against the West Indies. Their combined efforts saw them amass a remarkable 310 runs across the three matches, showcasing an impressive demonstration of top-order batting skills. Gill’s consistent brilliance propelled him to the fifth rank in the ICC ODI batting rankings, enhancing his rating to 743 points.
While Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam continues to maintain his lead in the ODI batting rankings, Gill’s upward trajectory places him within striking distance of third-placed Fakhar Zaman (755) and fourth-placed Iman-ul-Haq (745). The young Indian batsman’s exceptional series against the West Indies has undoubtedly bolstered his international reputation.
Ishan Kishan, another vital contributor to India’s success, also experienced a meteoric rise, surging nine positions to reach the 36th spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings. Meanwhile, the dynamic all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s valiant efforts against the West Indies translated into an impressive 10-spot climb, landing him in the joint 71st position.
The rankings update also witnessed India’s experienced all-rounder, Pandya, surge five places to reach the 11th spot on the ICC ODI all-rounder list. Among the bowlers, left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav and seamer
Shardul Thakur etched their names onto the rankings, marking a significant shift in the landscape.
Kuldeep’s remarkable performance, amassing seven wickets during the series against the West Indies, propelled him into the top 10 of the ODI Bowler Rankings, securing the 10th position with 622 points. On the other hand, Shardul Thakur’s impressive eight scalps elevated him by three spots to the 30th position in the rankings.
Indian cricketing stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma maintained their positions in the rankings, with Kohli securing the 9th spot and Sharma occupying the 11th spot among ODI batters. The emergence of newcomer Tilak Varma, debuting in the 46th position, added a new dynamic to India’s batting lineup. Notably, Kuldeep Yadav’s substantial ascent, advancing 36 places to the 51st position among bowlers, stands out as a significant accomplishment for the Indian contingent.
