New Delhi : The five-match T20I series between India and the West Indies concluded with the hosts securing victory with a 3-2 scoreline. In the series finale, India, led by Hardik Pandya, struggled while batting and managed to reach a total of 165/9 in 20 overs, with Suryakumar Yadav’s contribution of 61 runs standing out. However, the West Indies comfortably chased down the target in just 18 overs with eight wickets to spare. Among the Indian players, wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson faced a challenging series, failing to make an impact once again.

Throughout the series, Samson, who also captains the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, played in all five T20Is against the West Indies. However, he was unable to produce a significant performance in any of the matches. In two of the games, he didn’t even have a chance to bat, and in the remaining matches, he registered low scores of 12, 7, and 13.

Following the conclusion of the series in the West Indies’ favour, Indian fans took to the social media platform X, formally known as  Twitter, flooding it with humorous memes to express their disappointment in Samson’s performance.

A report said that former Indian opener Aakash Chopra weighed in on the situation and expressed his scepticism about Samson’s inclusion in the upcoming ODI World Cup squad, which hinges on the fitness of KL Rahul.

“At this point in time, if KL Rahul becomes available, I don’t see him [Samson] in the World Cup team. I don’t think he will be seen in the Asia Cup team as well,” Chopra shared on his YouTube channel.

Chopra also acknowledged Samson’s age and encouraged him to remain optimistic despite this setback, pointing out that at 28 years old, he still has time on his side. He mentioned that opportunities like the T20 World Cup next year and other future cricketing events offer a chance for redemption and resurgence.
