New Delhi: As anticipation builds for the upcoming Asia Cup, social media users have been abuzz with speculations about whether former Indian captain Virat Kohli will surpass the iconic Sachin Tendulkar’s ODI century record. Amidst the debates and discussions, India’s World Cup hero and cricket sensation with Kerala roots, Robin Uthappa, has shared a thoughtful response that underscores Kohli’s commitment to the team’s success.
“Whether Virat Kohli achieves Sachin Tendulkar’s ODI century record during the Asia Cup, World Cup, or any other moment, it doesn’t matter,” Uthappa stated emphatically. Uthappa went on to emphasise that Kohli’s primary focus remains on clinching victories for India rather than individual milestones.
“Kohli doesn’t really care about breaking records anymore; we as fans are obsessed with it,” Uthappa added. He noted that Kohli’s genuine aspiration is to secure victories for the Indian cricket team, a goal that takes precedence over any personal achievements.
With a remarkable career spanning 274 ODIs, Kohli has amassed an impressive total of 12,898 runs, maintaining an outstanding average of 57.32. He has etched his name in history with 46 centuries and an additional 65 fifties to his credit. Among the discussions that have sparked intrigue, the central focus has been whether Kohli will break Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries, a record that has stood the test of time.
