Kolkata: Team India took full advantage of the solid foundation laid by their captain, Rohit Sharma, at the iconic Kolkata Eden Gardens. With an impressive start, the opening duo of Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma notched up 60 runs in just five overs, confirming that the decision to bat first after winning the toss was a wise one.

India got off to a flying start, with Rohit Sharma, known as the “Hitman,” scoring a quick 40 runs off 24 balls, while Gill contributed 23 runs. Subsequently, as Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer took the crease.

Both Kohli and Shreyas found their rhythm, delivering an exceptional performance. Kohli, celebrating his birthday by hitting half-century, followed closely by Shreyas, marking his second consecutive 50 in this World Cup tournament . The partnership between these two stalwarts has yielded an impressive 103 runs thus far.

The South African bowlers, Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada, managed to break through, claiming crucial wickets for their team. At the 33rd over mark, India stood at 200 runs for the loss of 2 wickets.
