Mumbai: Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma and Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar are set to meet and deliberate on the future of Indian cricket following the BCCI directive. The decisions taken during this meeting will impact the events unfolding in the next four years.
According to a media report , the focal point of discussion will be Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. Even before the ODI World Cup, which concluded on the 19th of this month, Sharma had expressed his desire not to be considered for the T20 squad. The team management is keen on nurturing young talents in the T20 format, and this decision aligns with the T20 World Cup scheduled for June next year.
Presently, Rohit Sharma has shown interest in Test cricket, particularly with an eye on the 2025 Test Championship. The team’s strategic goal is to develop a long-term captain for white-ball cricket. The absence of Hardik Pandya, due to injury, has prompted the consideration of additional players, especially for the ODIs.
The team is looking at choices, and it seems Shreyas Iyer might come back to Test cricket soon though Rahane is also under consideration. Moreover, KL Rahul is expected to return to Tests, offering crucial backup as a wicketkeeper.
