Thiruvananthapuram: Bangladesh all-rounder Nassir Hossain has been handed a two-year ban by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching the Emirates Cricket Board’s anti-corruption code. The ban, applicable across all cricket formats, comes after Hossain faced three charges in September 2023.
The alleged corrupt activities took place during the T10 League in Abu Dhabi in 2021, implicating seven individuals, including team support staff and owners. As per the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit, the initial charge against Hossain was his failure to inform the Anti-Corruption Official (without unnecessary delay) about receiving a gift valued at over US$750, namely the gift of a new iPhone 12.
The second accusation levelled against Hossain was his failure to disclose the details to the Anti-Corruption official regarding the approach or invitation he received to participate in Corrupt Conduct through the new iPhone 12.
Additionally, he was charged with failing or refusing to cooperate with the Anti-Corruption Official’s investigation into potential Corrupt Conduct under the Code. This encompassed, among other things, the failure to accurately and completely provide any information and/or documentation requested by the Anti-Corruption Official as part of the investigation, whether through a formal demand pursuant to Article 4.3 or by other means.
Nassir Hossain, who last played an ODI for Bangladesh in 2018, has accumulated 2695 runs and taken 39 wickets in 115 matches across various formats for the national team.
