Mumbai: Indian cricket player Shreyas Iyer is reportedly gearing up for a return to domestic cricket amidst concerns over the cancellation of his annual contract with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). According to sources, Iyer has informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) of his availability for the upcoming Ranji Trophy semi-finals, where Mumbai is set to face off against Tamil Nadu.
Shreyas Iyer was unable to participate in both the Test series against England and the Ranji Trophy matches due to back pain. However, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) verified his fitness, stating that he has no new injuries and is fit to play after completing a physical fitness test.
Despite being part of the team for the first two Tests against England, Iyer’s performance was disappointing, and he was excluded from the squad. BCCI secretary, Jai Shah, had previously warned players about the importance of participating in the Ranji Trophy. Moreover, Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma recently reiterated that players neglecting domestic cricket would not be considered for selection.
