California: During the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023 held on Monday, the tech giant unveiled its highly anticipated mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro. This cutting-edge device primarily functions as an Augmented Reality (AR) headset but can seamlessly switch between augmented and full virtual reality modes using a dial.
Notably, the Vision Pro is a controller-free device that enables users to navigate rows of app icons simply by looking at them. Selections can be made through taps, and scrolling can be accomplished by flicking, with voice commands also available. Apple assures users that they will remain aware of their surroundings while using the device, thanks to a feature called EyeSight, which displays the user’s eyes within the virtual environment. With its futuristic design, the Vision Pro offers a highly immersive experience for using apps, playing games, and watching videos on its 4K screen. The device has a starting price of $3,499 USD.
In addition to the Vision Pro, Apple unveiled the new 15-inch MacBook Air, its thinnest notebook to date. The M2 CPU powers this laptop, which incorporates a 1080p camera for high-quality video conversations and six speakers for immersive spatial audio.
Apple also unveiled the latest versions of Mac Studio and Mac Pro, catering to professional users. These devices are equipped with the all-new M2 Ultra chipset, promising enhanced performance and capabilities.
Shifting focus to software updates, Apple also launched iOS 17, iPad OS 17, and watchOS 10, each packed with a wide range of features to enhance user experiences across different devices.
