Samsung has finally unveiled its latest foldable smart phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5, during the Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event in Seoul, South Korea which had happened today. The wait was worth the while cause the new launches are sure to be a treat for Android enthusiasts and foldable phone lovers alike.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 boasts being the thinnest and lightest Fold yet, with several improvements over its predecessor. Its displays have been upgraded, featuring a larger 6.2-inch cover screen with a Dynamic AMOLED panel offering a resolution of 2316 x 904 and a 120 Hz refresh rate. The main display is now 7.6 inches with a resolution of 2176 x 1812, an aspect ratio of 21:6:18 and a 120 Hz refresh rate.
Under the hood, the Z Fold 5 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, paired with 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage. The phone is powered by a 4400mAh battery with 25W wired fast charging support, capable of charging the phone up to 50% in just 30 minutes.
The device comes with an IPX8 rating for water resistance and ships with Android 13 and Samsung’s One UI 5.1.1. For photography, it features a 10-megapixel front-facing camera on the cover screen and a 4-megapixel under-display camera on the main screen. On the back, a triple-camera setup includes a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 50-megapixel wide-angle camera, and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera.
The starting price of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is $1,799 (approximately ₹1, 47,600), with Indian pricing yet to be announced.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5, on the other hand, comes with a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display and a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED 60Hz cover display. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform, paired with 8GB of RAM, and offers two storage options – 256GB and 512GB. The phone has a 3,700mAh dual battery, supporting fast charging and wireless powerShare.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 has a stylish design and features the new Flex Window, which is now 3.78 times larger than the previous generation, offering various capabilities. The device also comes with a Flipsuit Case for device protection and a changeable NFC card.
The starting price of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is $999 (approximately ₹82,000), and its Indian pricing will also be revealed later.
Additionally, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Watch 6 Series, consisting of two smartwatches – Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 and the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. These watches aim to help users build healthier habits by providing personalised insights and sleep analysis. The watches come in different sizes and colours to cater to various preferences.
Samsung also unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series, which includes the Galaxy Tab S9 and Galaxy Tab S9+. These tablets have an 11-inch dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. They include capabilities such as 5G and 4G LTE connections, Wi-Fi 6, and Wi-Fi direct, among others.
The Galaxy Tab S9 series includes the S Pen and has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The tablets also feature quad stereo speakers backed by AKG and Dolby Atmos, as well as improved DeX Mode for enhanced multitasking. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 starts at $799 (approximately ₹65,000), the Galaxy Tab S9+ starts at $999 (approximately ₹82,000), and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra starts at $1,999 (approximately ₹1, 63,000).
