Apple is reportedly preparing to launch the iPhone 15, which will be manufactured at its Chennai unit in India, with the goal of achieving a nearly simultaneous global release in mid-September. This marks a significant shift from previous models, where there was a notable time lag between the Indian launch and the global release. The tech giant based in California is preparing for a significant milestone with the iPhone 15, and the notable shift this time is the timing of it being ‘made-in-India’ iPhone 15 phones.
According to media reports, Apple is making concerted efforts to set a new milestone in India by unveiling the iPhone 15, manufactured at Foxconn’s Chennai facility, around mid-September. This strategic move aims to minimise the time gap between the Indian launch and the global release, possibly resulting in a simultaneous debut in India, as sources familiar with the situation suggest.
In contrast, last year’s iPhone 14 saw production at Apple’s Foxconn facility in Chennai commence just ten days after its global launch, with Indian-made iPhones hitting the market approximately a month later.
This year, the time gap, if any, is expected to be further reduced to just a few days, given the ongoing preparations for mass production of the iPhone 15. Trial production of the iPhone 15 commenced in China in June at Foxconn’s Zhengzhou factory, and components began arriving at Foxconn’s Indian facilities around the same period.
Furthermore, Apple aims to initiate exports of the India-made iPhone 15 series devices in December 2023. Initially, these devices are intended to meet the rising demand in the local Indian market, especially during the festive season. Following December, reports suggest that the company may expand iPhone 15 exports, including to Europe and the US.
