Thiruvananthapuram: As Samsung prepares for the ‘Galaxy Unpacked’ event scheduled for January 17 to unveil its S24 series globally, recent rumours suggest a significant upgrade in software support. Reports indicate that the Samsung S24 series may receive up to 7 years of software and OS updates. This means the flagship smartphones could remain eligible for updates up to Android version 21, adding an extra layer to Samsung’s commitment to continuous support. Since 2020, Samsung has pledged four years of major OS upgrades and five years of security updates for its flagship and select mid-range smartphones.
This potential move by Samsung follows Google’s announcement in October last year, confirming seven years of OS and security updates for its latest Pixel 8 series. The competition between Samsung and Google intensifies as they strive to provide extended software support for their devices.
Recent leaks regarding the Samsung Galaxy S24 series specifications reveal that the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus will be equipped with the Samsung Exynos 2400 chipset in Germany and Europe, while the global market will see the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. On the other hand, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset universally.
Specifically, the vanilla Galaxy S24 is anticipated to showcase a 6.2-inch Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,080×2,340 pixels. Camera specifications include a triple setup at the back with a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 10MP telephoto sensor featuring 3x optical zoom. Powering the device is expected to be a 4,000 mAh battery, supporting a 25W wired charger and a 15W wireless charger.
