Thiruvananthapuram: The BJP leader, K. Surendran, came down heavily on the communist government of Kerala for giving Cabinet rank to Dr. A. Sampath, who is the former Member of Parliament from Attingal.

Sampath has been posted as the State’s representative with Cabinet rank. He will function as the representative of Kerala in the circles of Delhi. The position is more or less ceremonial just like the Administrative Reforms Commission headed by V. S. Achuthananthan.

Surendran in his facebook post says that Sampath will now be like an Ambassador for Kerala who deals with the Central government and to improve relations with other states. He says that if the working style of the leadership is changed then there would be no need for such posts. He also took a dig at Pinaryai Vijayan by saying that for development to happen in Kerala, there must be a visionary leader in the state.

K. Surendran alleged that the decision to give Cabinet position to Sampath is a waste of taxpayers’ money. He says that with the Cabinet post comes benefits like free accommodation, travel expenses, helpers, office, and office which will strain the exchequer of the state.

The BJP leader claimed that crores of Rupees will be wasted on maintaining the ceremonial post.  He also questioned if Kerala was suffering from financial constraints as claimed by the government.
