Pathanamthitta: The Pathanamthitta district collector has sought an explanation from Pathanamthitta LDF candidate Thomas Isaac for violating the election code of conduct during the Pathanamthitta election campaign. The complaint mentioned that the candidate, Thomas Isaac, misused government systems for the election campaign programme. The Collector has directed Thomas Isaac to provide an explanation within three days.
The complaint states that government systems such as the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategy Council (K-DISC), a strategic think-tank and advisory body constituted by the Kerala government, Haritha Karma Sena, and Kudumbashree – State Poverty Eradication Mission (SPEM), were used for the election campaign. The complaint also mentioned that Thomas Isaac made promises regarding loans through Kudumbashree and employment schemes through K-DISC. A complaint has also been filed with the Election Commission regarding the incident.
Recently, the Election Commission (EC) warned another LDF candidate from Thrissur Lok Sabha, VS Sunil Kumar, for misusing photographs with Malayalam film actor Tovino Thomas for election campaigning. Sunil Kumar shared photographs with Tovino Thomas on social media after meeting him at a movie shooting location.
Meanwhile, another controversy was erupted over Thomas Isaac’s recent anti-Christian statements.
Thomas Isaac made controversial anti-Christian statements in a Facebook post announcing his participation in an anti-CAA conference organized by the Muslim Mahal Committees in Erattupetta.
In his post, Thomas Isaac referred to the incident involving an ‘attempted murder’ of Father Attuchalil Joseph, Assistant Vicar of St. Mary’s Forane Church in Poonjar, by a group of youths from Erattupetta, describing it as a mere ‘accident’. Asserting that there were no serious injuries to the Priest Attuchalil Joseph, Thomas Isaac also criticized the believers who rushed to help the priest as having ‘vested interests’.
In this situation, several criticisms are rising against Thomas Isaac, who is blamed for targeting the Christian community in connection with the incident of Poonjar Priest attack to secure votes from the Muslim community in Erattupetta.
