Siddharth’s death: Kerala Government hands over case to CBI

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has forwarded the documents to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for the probe into the death of Siddharth, a student at Pookode Veterinary University. Special Cell Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Sreekanth personally travelled to Delhi and submitted the documents to the Ministry of Personnel.

The decision to transfer the investigation to the CBI came after Siddharth’s father, Jayaprakash, met with the Chief Minister. Although the Kerala government issued the notification to hand over the case to the CBI on the 9th of this month, the CBI was officially informed about it on the 16th. The delay in transferring the case to the CBI drew criticism from Siddharth’s family as well. Jayaprakash had previously alleged that the government was intentionally delaying the transfer of the case to the CBI. He criticised the government, suggesting that the delay was an attempt to protect the accused affiliated with the Student Federation of India (SFI).

Expressing his concerns over the delay in the investigation, Siddharth’s father sought meetings with Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and Rajeev Chandrasekhar. Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s intervention became crucial when the investigation faced a standstill. Jayaprakash conveyed his distrust towards the ruling party members in handling his son’s case to the media.
