New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Bharat Ratna upon former Prime Ministers PV Narasimha Rao and Chaudhary Charan Singh, former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, and agronomist MS Swaminathan today. All four awards were conferred posthumously at a brief ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Earlier this year, the Narendra Modi government announced five names for India’s highest civilian award, including BJP leader LK Advani. It is also reported that the BJP senior leader will be given the Bharat Ratna award tomorrow by President Murmu at his residence due to his ailing health condition.
Jayant Singh, grandson of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, received the Bharat Ratna on behalf of his grandfather.

The award for PV Narasimha Rao was received by his son PV Prabhakara Rao. The daughter of Agriculture Scientist MS Swaminathan, Nitya Rao, received the Bharat Ratna award on behalf of her father.
Ram Nath Thakur, the son of Karpoori Thakur, received the award on behalf of his late father from Rashtrapati Bhavan today.
