Kannur: The police have arrested four people in Panoor, Kannur district, in connection with the incident in which a bomb exploded during its making. Police suspect that 10 people are involved in bomb-making of which eight of them have been identified.
Sheril, a CPI(M) activist, one of the person involved in the incident, was killed on the spot. Arun, Athul, Shibin Lal, and Sayooj, who were the others who were engaged in bomb-making. They were arrested by the Special Investigation Team led by Koothuparamba ACP K Venugopal.
Sayooj was arrested in Palakkad while trying to escape to Coimbatore, the police said.
Vineesh, the mastermind behind the bomb making is yet to be arrested, as he is currently under treatment for the injuries he suffered during the bomb explosion. Vineesh is the son of a local CPI(M) leader.
Two others, Ashwanth and Vinod are also in critical condition and are undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College and Government Medical College, Pariyaram, Kannur respectively.
According to reports, the blast occurred yesterday during the making of explosives on the terrace of an under-construction building near the house of Manoharan, a lottery seller.
The police are also investigating if more people are involved in the incident. They are checking nearby hospitals in the district for individuals who may have reached hospitals with injuries.
Though, there are allegation of CPI(M) connection in the case, the Kerala state secretary M V Govindan stated that the accused have no connection with the CPI(M).
