Thiruvananthapuram: VD Satheesan, the opposition leader, criticized the Idukki Diocese for screening the film ‘The Kerala Story’, stating that it was inappropriate for the diocese to screen it. He said that he and others had opposed even broadcasting the film on Doordarshan. Recently, left and right political leaders had expressed opposition against the screening of the movie on Doordarshan.
According to Satheesan, ‘The Kerala Story’ is not based on real events but is instead fabricated to demean Kerala. He argued that the film falsely portrays Kerala as having characteristics it does not possess, which he finds insulting and unacceptable. Satheesan made these remarks, when asked about the issue during a media interaction in Thiruvananthapuram.
But Idukki Diocese PRO Fr Jins Karakkat explained that it is a reality that love jihad exists in the society and the film ‘The Kerala Story’ was screened to prevent this trend and create awareness.
The Diocese of Idukki has decided to create awareness among the teenagers based on the concerns from the Christian churches that things including Love Jihad are still active in the society. Church leadership had repeatedly pointed out that there are moves to deceive Christian girls like this. As part of this awareness campaign, the Idukki Diocese has screened the film in churches where religious studies classes are held.
The film’s message is centered on the dangers of fake love, where people pretend affection to lure girls into conversion and involvement in terrorist activities. This film, which was well-received in Kerala, was chosen to shed light on these sensitive issues.
