Thrissur: BJP Thrissur Lok Sabha candidate, Suresh Gopi, has responded to the crisis created during the Thrissur Pooram festival. He revealed that he suspects a Sabarimala type operation behind the crisis in one of Kerala’s grand cultural festival. He questioned if the crisis was created to grab votes.
Suresh Gopi condemned the police for beating up devotees and festival enthusiasts who had come to take part in the festival. He said that he is not talking much about the situation as he is contesting in the election. Gopi remarked that he suspects that the script behind the crisis was written in order to capture votes.
The BJP leader said that LDF and the UDF are creating a crisis and then solves it to show that they are problem solvers. The postponing of the firecracker show had hurt him, said Suresh Gopi. The grand firecracker show is one of the highlights of the Pooram and is part of the festival.
Suresh Gopi said that he rushed to the spot last night after he was informed that Pooram was being stopped. He said that stopping the Thrissur Pooram like this was unheard of. He then spoke with the Thiruvambadi Devaswom and also held discussion with the Collector.
He said that though both the sides conducted the traditional firecracker show, there was changes in the timing. The arrangement of the Pakalpooram got all messed up. All of it resembled the Sabarimala operation. Everyone must refrain from enmity and quarrels.
Suresh Gopi also wished that the next Thrissur Pooram will be conducted by people’s committees.
