New Delhi: One of the tallest leader of BJP and the former Union Foreign Minister, Sushma Swaraj, has died. She died after suffering a massive heart attack. She was 67.

The former External Minister was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, where she met her end. She was suffering from health issues after undergoing a kidney transplant. She had decided not to contest the Lok Sabha elections because of her failing health.

Several Union Ministers have reached AIIMS hospital after hearing about the loss.

Prime Minister condoled the death of Sushma Swaraj. In a tweet he said, ” “A glorious chapter in Indian politics comes to an end. India grieves the demise of a remarkable leader who devoted her life to public service and bettering lives of the poor. Sushma Swaraj Ji was one of her kind, who was a source of inspiration for crores of people.”

Just three hours earlier, Sushma Swaraj had tweeted thanking the Prime Minister for the decision to revoke Article 370. She tweeted, “Thank you Prime Minister. Thank you very much. I was waiting to see this day in my lifetime.”

Sushma Swaraj was one of the best ministers in Modi’s government’s first cabinet. Her performance as the External Minister was very efficient and impeccable that she is considered as one of the best foreign ministers India ever had. Her untiring efforts to help all those who reached out to her through her twitter and other means was admired by everyone including the opposition.

People loved the hardworking Foreign Minister and everyone was disappointed after she declined to contest for elections. However, she was active on social media and always connected to the people of India. No wonder she was called India’s best-loved politician by ‘Wall Street Journal’.

Swaraj was born into a family with many RSS members in 1953. She began her career as an advocate in the Supreme Court and was associated with the ABVP in 1970s. She took part in Jayaprakash Narayanan’s Total Revolution Movement against the emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi. After the emergency she formally joined the BJP. She became the youngest Cabinet Minister at just 25 years of age.

Sushma Swaraj was the first woman Chief Minister of Delhi in 1998 but had to bow down due to rising prices of onion and resigned from the post that same year.

Later she became the leader of opposition during the 15th Lok Sabha election and was instrumental in attacking the Congress led UPA government.

After BJP won power at the Center, Sushma Swaraj was given the crucial External Ministry where she gave a stellar performance.

Sushma Swaraj will be forever remembered for her humanity, humility, commitment to work and undying loyalty to the nation.
