Thiruvananthapuram: The Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, has called for an emergency after heavy rains lashed Kerala leading to flooding in many parts. The Revenue Minister, E.  Chandrashekaran, and other top government officials will take part in the meeting.

Pinrayai Vijayan had called for the meeting to take stock of the situation.

Kerala is witnessing heavy rains with red alert being issued in Idduki, Malappuram, and Kozhikode districts. Large scale destruction have occurred due to rain and strong winds.

The management of the Ponmudi Eco Tourism in Thiruvananthapuram said that two days of rainstorm has led to mudslides and felling of trees in the area. Authorities announced that Ponmudi is closed for tourists till further notice.

Though, Thiruvananthapuram city is only getting intermittent rain, the villages in the hinterland of the district are getting heavy rainfall.

Kerala had faced the worst flood in its recorded history last year. The 2018 floods devastated the normal life of Kerala with millions facing hardships and life at relief camps for weeks and months on end.

There are many reports that the 2018 floods was a result of mismanagement of dam openings and squarely blames the government and the minister responsible for giving the order to release the dam waters all of a sudden.

The minister failed in gauging the situation and had ample time to release dams before it reached to its full capacity. He waited till the dams overflowed and released the shutters of the dams at roughly the same time period. The result was that an unimaginable amount of water flooded our living spaces destroying agriculture, property, and business.
