Thiruvananthapuram: The situation in Kerala remains grim with landslides and flood waters throwing normal life out of balance. More than 55 people have been reported dead in the past three days. Red alert has been announced in Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasargod districts by the India Meteorological Department for tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the Cochin International Airport announced that services would resume services from 12 pm Sunday after flood waters have receded.

1,111 camps are operating across the state and 1,24, 464 people have taken refuge in these camps. Rescue operators have evacuated close to 34,386 families to safer areas.

The largest earthen dam in India situated in Wayanad has been opened by 10 cm and the people living on the banks have been shifted to safer grounds. Reports say that around 40 migrant workers are trapped in Ranimala Estate and all the routes leading towards them have been destroyed in landslides.

Pinarayai Vijayan said that 80 landslides occurred in the state after the devastating rains began. Landslide is one of the serious threat to human lives, especially for those living on hilly regions.
