Islamabad: Pakistan is getting ready to move the Kashmir issue at the United Nations Security Council with the help of its only ally in the international body – China. The announcement came after the Chinese and Pakistani foreign department heads met at Beijing on Friday.
Pakistan Foreign Minister, Mahmood Qureshi, and Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, met on Friday to discuss the situation in Kashmir.
After the meeting Mahmood Qureshi said, “China supports Pakistan’s repeated calls for peace and stability and we will work together to highlight the voice of Kashmiris to the world. ”
The Pakistani administration has been encouraged by the tactical support of the communist China to put up the issue with UNSC. Recently, Pakistan had to face reversals at the international body when Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar was blacklisted by the UNSC. Even China had to abandon their friend and supported the majority decision of the council.
The Chinese would be only happy to help Pakistan in Kashmir issue as they are worried India could reclaim the Aksai Chin area in Jammu & Kashmir which is now controlled by China.
China will use Pakistan to keep the issue of Kashmir simmering and to picture India as an exploitive and authoritarian regime.
Pakistan on the other hand is on the verge of economic collapse and is using the Kashmir issue to keep its Islamic hardliners happy and to divert the attention of its citizens away from the spiraling economy.
Pakistan is already on the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), an international body that monitors terror funding, and could end up on the black list if Pakistan do not improve its crackdown on terrorism.
If the Islamic nation do not abide by the FATF rules, then it would be unlikely that international financial assistance could come to Pakistan. This could further erode the country’s economic situation leading to a collapse.
Instead of trying to save the its economy, the Pakistani administration is harping on Kashmir issue and trying to foment trouble for India.
