Beijing: The External Affairs Minister, S. Jayashankar, who is on a three day visit to China, conveyed to the Chinese that scrapping of Article 370 is an internal matter of India. He also said that India was not raising any additional territorial claims.

Jaishankar said that the legislative changes did not impact the Line of Control (LoC). He asked the Chinese to base their assessment on the realities on the ground when it comes to India and Pakistan relations. He reminded the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, that India is a responsible power and showed restraint even after provocation from Pakistan.

The Minister added that there was no implication for either the external boundaries of India or the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.

He also outlined that scrapping Article 370 was aimed at promoting good governance and socio-economic development in the region.

Indian Foreign Minister said that the future relationship with China will depend on mutual sensitivity to each other’s core concerns and properly managing differences vital to the bilateral relationship becoming a factor of stability in an uncertain world.

He also reminded the Chinese that when it came to India and China boundary question both the sides have agreed to a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable settlement of the boundary question on the basis of 2005 Political and Guiding Principles.

Jaishankar had met with Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan in the morning and discussed global issue.

Indian Foreign Minister’s visit to China is held at a crucial time when relation between India and Pakistan is at a new low owing to scrapping of Article 370. Pakistan is depending upon China to support them at international forums against India’s action.

China worries more about the Aksai Chin region which is part of India and now controlled by the communist country. Amit Shah had announced in Parliament that Pakistan occupied Kashmir and Aksai Chin were part of India.

Jaishankar has deftly managed the relation with Chinese and at the same time have exerted our right in scrapping Article 370 as an internal matter of India.
