Mamata Banerjee rakes up Kashmir issue in the name of giving tributes to Vajpayee

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, pushed her own agenda on Kashmir by using the opportunity of Atal Behari Vajpayee’s death anniversary.

In a twitter message, Mamata Banerjee, said, “Tribute to Atal Behari Vajpayee ji, former Prime Minister, on his first anniversary. Let us recall his words: ‘The gun can solve no problems. Issues can be guided by the three principles of insaniyat, jambhooriyat and kashmiriyat.”

Many political observers see her tweet as a deliberate attempt to push her own agenda in the Kashmir issue. The fact that she used the occasion of the first death anniversary of former prime minister Vajpayee shows her resolve to go to any lengths or insult any personalities to push through her agenda.

Of all the wisdom and beautiful words that Vajpayee said in his glorious lifetime, Mamata Banerjee could only use the words that he uttered to address Kashmir issue. Her Trinamool Congress (TMC) hold the same views as that of Congress and the left parties when it comes to the government’s decision to scrap Article 370.

Mamata Banerjee’s vehement opposition to the government’s decision is her tactic to consolidate her Muslim vote bank. She is already jittery over the rise of BJP in West Bengal. TMC goons have already killed a number of BJP workers in the State who they see as threats to their undemocratic rule of West Bengal.

Abrogation of Article 370 was a long standing demand by the BJP that stemmed from the days of Jana Sangh. The founder of Jana Sangh, Syama Prasad Mukherjee, laid down his life for the cause of Kashmir and the abrogation of the article.

Mamata Banerjee had served as Union Minister for Railways in the Vajpayee Cabinet from October 1999 to March 2001.
