UNSC meeting on Kashmir: Kashmir is an internal matter of India; no need of outside interference; Syed Akbaruddin scorches Pakistan

United Nations: Indian Ambassador to the UN Syed Akbaruddin lashed out heavily at Pakistan following a special session of the United Nations Security Council. He said that Pakistan was trying to mislead the world and is showcasing double standard in the fight against terrorism.

Syed Akbaruddin attacked Pakistan at a press conference in New York after the Security Council meeting.

Article 370 is an internal affair of India. It does not require any outside intervention. In Kashmir, some people are trying to hide the truth and create fear among the common people. Kashmir is the only state where leaders are trying to encourage violence by using the word ‘jihad’. But violence will never solve India’s problems,” Syed made it clear.

Mr. Akbaruddin told reporters that the abrogation of Article 370 was done to enhance good governance and socio-economic development in Jammu and Kashmir and that the UNSC consultations had taken note of this.

Conflicts between India and Pakistan, or any other country, can be resolved through bilateral negotiations. But Kashmir is purely an internal issue. It does not require outside intervention, he added.

The ambassador also said India was committed to all agreements it had signed on the issue and said India would sit down to talk with Pakistan when the latter’s support for terror ceased. “Stop terror to start talks,” he said.
