New Delhi: BJP Kottayam District President, N. Hari, will be the NDA candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Pala Assembly constituency. BJP Working President, J. P. Nadda announced the candidature of N. Hari.

The BJP has also announced candidates to the by-elections to seats in Chhattisgarh, Tripura, and Uttar Pradesh.

N. Hari had represented BJP during the 2016 Assembly elections. He is a familiar face in the hilly part of Kottayam district and has been in the forefront of many massive protests of the BJP.

The NDA meeting on Friday had decided that BJP would contest the election at Pala which has a considerable minority vote. Pala was earlier represented by Kerala Congress leader K. M. Mani, who died in April.

The CPI(M) led Left Democratic Front is fielding Mani C. Kappen, who belongs to the Nationalist Congress Party, an ally of CPI(M).

After a lot of bickering and infighting the Kerala Congress (M), the ally of Congress, has announced Jose Tom Pulikunnel as the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate.

Kerala Congress (M) is witnessing internal strife following the death of K. M. Mani with his son Jose K. Mani on one side and the Party Chairman, P. J. Joseph, heading the other faction.

The lot fell to Jose Tom Pulikunnel after both sides were comfortable with the veteran Kerala Congress leader.

The by-election will be held on 23 September.
