Thrissur: A Socialist Democratic Party of India (SDPI) leader was arrested in the murder of Congress worker Noushad of Chavakaddu. The accused, Arakkal Jamal, is the Area Secretary of SDPI at Chavakkad and he is the sixth person to be arrested in the political killing. There are 20 accused in the case.

Jamal had gone into hiding after the brutal murder of Noushad and was living in places such as Pollachi, Madurai, and Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. The police were able to nab him after receiving a tip off that the accused was hiding in Tamil Nadu.

Noushad was killed on 31 July after a gang of SDPI workers who came on bikes hacked him to death. The SDPI killer gang had attacked four persons including Noushad. The police had already nabbed the main accused Mubeer, Febir, Muhammad, Musthafa, Fabis Aboobacker.

Meanwhile, the family of the victim has said that the investigations of the Kerala police are not going on the right direction and demanded that the National Investigation Agency take up the case.

The family has leveled serious allegations that the investigating officers have relations with terror groups and that they have business ties with leaders of SDPI and Popular Front of India.
