Houston: ‘Howdy Modi’ is making waves across the United States because it is the biggest event organized ever for a foreign dignitary in the history of the country. That makes ‘Howdy Modi’ a prime target for anti-India groups and they have already begun to tarnish the image of Narendra Modi and India.
Two US based Kashmiri activists and the Khalistan Referendum Front have filed a federal lawsuit against Modi for human rights violation in Kashmir. They accuse Narendra Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah, and the Commander of 15 Corps, Lt. Gen. Kanwal Jeet Singh Dhillon for carrying out extrajudicial killings and inflicted cruel, inhuman, degrading treatment upon Kashmiris after the abrogation of Article 370.
According to a news media the complaint was filed under Torture Victim Protection Act 1991 that allows someone to file a lawsuit against foreign officials suspected of committing extrajudicial killing and torture.
Human rights groups nudged on by Pakistan are expected to protest in front of the mega event which will be held on 22 September. Reports say that Pakistan will even attempt to bring people from the front of mosques for the protest against Modi.
On 22 September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a huge crowd of 50,000 Indian-Americans at Houstan’s NRG Stadium. The event is considered the biggest one for welcoming a foreign dignitary on US soil.
The significance of the event is marked by the presence of the US President Donald Trump at the event. This will be the first event when the two leaders are jointly addressing such a huge crowd.
Scores of US lawmakers will also be present at the ‘Howdy Modi’ event.
