New York: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India will spend a whopping $50 billion for water conservation and outlined his government’s plans to fight climate change. He was speaking at the UN Climate Action Summit 2019 in held at the UN General Assembly chamber and hosted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Surprisingly, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, made a 15 minutes appearance at the summit which he was not due to attend. He was present during the speeches of Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. He left the meeting as soon as their speeches were over.

Many analysts believes the surprise entry of Donald Trump was to show how much he values his friendship with Narendra Modi and India.

In the UN summit Narendra Modi said, “We have started the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ for water conservation, rain-water harvesting, and for the development of water resources. In the next few years, India is going to spend $50 million on this.”

He added, “India will increase the share of non-fossil fuel, will increase renewable energy capacity to beyond 175 GW by 2022 and take it to 400 GW.”

Narendra Modi also reminded the leaders there that the world is not doing enough to overcome the challenge of climate change.
