New Delhi: The Supreme Court, today, has constituted a 5-judge Constitution bench headed by Justice N. V. Ramana to hear a plethora of petitions related to the scrapping of Article 370 by the central government.
The hearings will begin from the first week of October and will look into the petitions that challenges the constitutional validity of the government’s decision and the Presidential order which effectively did away with Article 370 that granted special provisions for the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The bench will also hear the petitions challenging the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh.
The petitioners in the case includes the National Conference party, the People’s Conference led by Sajjad Lone and also by individuals such as M. L. Sharma.
The Union Territories will come into existence on 31 October.
