Kasargod: BJP leader and Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, D. V. Sadananda Gowda, today said that the Central Government is planning to bring legislation to ban entry of women into Sabarimala. The move is to overturn the Supreme Court allowing women entry into Sabarimala, which was against the ancient traditions of the temple.
The minister said that the legislation will be similar to how the centre abrogated Article 370.
Sadananda Gowda, while speaking to media persons in Kasargod district said, “Right from 1952 we wanted to abrogate Article 370 and now we did it. Similarly, we do this too. Our actions will be very strong. We will take the right steps to take it forward. We are waiting for Supreme Court final order as we respect the judiciary.”
In September last year, a 5-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice struck against the ancient traditions of the temple in its 4 to 1 verdict. The Court allowed women to enter Sabarimala saying that women cannot be discriminated against.
However, the traditions of Sabarimala do not discriminate women per se and bans women between the age of 10 and 50.
The Kerala communist government used the Supreme Court verdict to force the Hindu community to succumb to its will and used force against innocent devotees who protested against it.
The CPI(M) government over zealousness and stubbornness when it came to Sabarimala was not seen when the Supreme Court passed a verdict in a dispute between two factions of the Orthodox Christian Church. The government failed to implement the verdict and was forced to execute it when the Supreme Court threatened to punish the Chief Secretary of Kerala.
