New Delhi: The former Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Lt. Gen(retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah, said that the Muslims should hand over the land in Ayodhya to Hindu brothers for lasting peace in the country.

Lt. Gen. (retd.). Zameer Uddin Shah is also the former Deputy Chief of Army Staff. d

The former Vice Chancellor said, “In case judgement is in favour of Muslims, for lasting peace in the country, Muslims should hand over the land to Hindu brothers. There has to be a solution otherwise we’ll go on fighting. I strongly support out-of-court settlement.”

He also expressed his views that it would be impossible to build a mosque at the disputed site even if the Supreme Court gives a judgement in favour of Muslims.

Zameer Uddin Shah’s statement comes days before the hearing of the Ram Janmabhoomi case is scheduled to conclude.

His statements also come at a time when group of Muslim intellectuals are suggesting a out of court settlement in the Ayodhya case. In addition, Indian Muslims for peace convenor, Kalam Khan, suggested that the disputed land owned by the Muslims should be handed over to the government as goodwill gesture of attaining communal harmony and peace.

The five-judge bench of the Supreme Court will give the verdict on the Ayodhya case on 17 November, 2019.
