Ahmedabad: The world’s tallest statue, ‘Statue of Unity’, will mark its first anniversary on October 31st. Indeed, a proud moment for India, Statue of Unity is one of the most prominent tourist destinations.
The statue was dedicated to the nation on the 143rd Birth Anniversary of India’s first Union Home Minister and deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 31, 2018.
The Statue of Unity has attracted over 26 lakh tourists according to details shared by the Gujarat Tourism Department official. The total amount of money earned by selling ticket is over Rs 57 crore. The figure is collected during the period of November 1, 2018, to September 12, 2019.
The officials told news media that total Non-resident Indian (NRI) and foreign tourist footfalls were at 12.35 lakh in the last one year.
The 182-metre tall statue is located at Sadhu-Bet islet on river Narmada, approximately 3.5 kms south of Sardar Sarovar Dam at Kevadiya in Narmada district of Gujarat.
The statue is divided into five zones of which only three are accessible to the public. From its base to the level of Patel’s shins is the first zone which has three levels and includes an exhibition area, mezzanine and roof. Zone 1 contains a memorial garden and a museum. The second zone reaches up to Patel’s thighs, while the third extends up to the viewing gallery at 153 metres. Zone 4 is the maintenance area while the final zone comprises the head and shoulders of the statue.
