Bhubaneswar: India’s indigenously developed nuclear-capable Prithvi-II missile successfully test-fired two rounds back-to-back at night on Wednesday. The trial was conducted by the Army from a mobile launcher – Launch Complex-3 of Chandipur Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Balasore district.
With a strike range of 350 km, the trial of the surface-to-surface missile was carried out at 7.05 pm yesterday.
“Two Prithvi-2 missiles were test fired consecutively and both tests met all parameters,” the official said from the Interim Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur.
The missile has the capacity to carry 500 to 1000 kg of warheads and it is powered by liquid propulsion twin engines.
The missile was randomly chosen from the production stock and the entire launch activity was carried out by Strategic Force Command (SFC) of the Army and monitored by scientists of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as part of the training exercise, official sources said.
Prithvi was inducted into the Armour of the defence forces in 2003.
