Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Police Commissioner, V. C. Sajjanar, detailed the events that led to the encounter of the four accused in the rape and murder of the veterinary doctor. He said that the accused attacked the officers with sticks and stones and snatched the weapons of two cops.
They were all killed in retaliatory attack by the police in self-defence.
In a press conference the Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar said, “Today, the police took the accused to the crime spot as a part of the investigation. All the four accused got together and they started attacked the police party with stones, sticks, and other materials and also snatched away weapons from two of our officers and started firing.”
The police had first warned the accused to surrender but after they continue to fire and attack the security officers. The four were killed in retaliatory firing by the police.
One ASI and a police constable got head injuries and were admitted to the hospital. The bodies of the accused are shifted to a local hospital for postmortem.
The accused Mohammed Arif, Naveen, Shiva, and Chennakeshavulu were accused of raping and murdering a veterinary doctor on 27 November. Her body was later burned to hide the crime. However, her body was found the next day. The rape and murder case shocked the consciousness of the nation and widespread protest broke out demanding speedy justice for the woman and her family.
After the news of the encounter killings of the accused came out, many took to social media to congratulate the police for their quick action to neutralize the hardened criminals.
