Hyderabad: The neighbours of the veterinary doctor who was raped and killed protested against the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for investigating the killing of all the accused by the Telangana police. The NHRC is visiting the state to probe into the encounter killing the accused.
The protestors questioned the silence of the NHRC when the rape occurred but became active after the police killed the accused. They said that NHRC raising questions against the police is unwarranted.
One protestor said, NHRC people woke up at eleventh hour, that too after the accused were killed in a police encounter. Till then , they did not make even a single statement. Why? Are human rights for accused only and not for the common man?”
The veterinary doctor was raped, murdered and her body burnt on 27 November. The incident sparked protests across the country. Four persons were arrested for the crime.
On 6 December all the accused were killed by the police after they tried to escape after attacking the police. The encounter killing was hailed by majority of the public and welcomed the fact that the rapists were all killed.
