New Delhi: Lucknow based Shia cleric, Maulana Kalbe Jawad, today, requested Muslims to keep restraint and not to resort to violence in the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). He also blamed political parties for misleading the youth about CAA and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

His appeal comes after protests against CAA became violent across the country.

Maulana Kalbe Jawad said that CAA and NRC are different things and that NRC was implemented only in Assam. He reminded that no one knows about the rules of the NRC if and when it is applied to the whole of India. He said that political parties are creating confusion.

The opposition Congress, left parties and many other political parties and communal forces have instigated violent protests across the country destroying properties worth crore of rupees. Violent protesters have resorted to burning vehicles and police stations. Many police officers have been injured in the attack. The police have taken a tough stand against violent protesters and more than 10 protesters have lost their lives in the country wide agitation.

Section 144 is imposed in many areas and internet services have been blocked to stop the spread of violence.
